I would've given 5 stars but I felt it could have talked more about why these people behave like this. This book does a great job of outlining the different types of people and categorizing them. It was fun to identify people from my workplace -- and some of my relatives, too. When I read Understanding Other People:: The Five Secrets to Human Behavior (Volume 1)and learned about different behaviors, some of the people in here matched those and maybe that's why they seem difficult to me. But, overall I liked the organized way to look at people and their behaviors and learn what I can (and can't) do.
It was written by a person with real management experience - not an academia type (although the author is a Ph.D).2.It is not a Cartoon style book of the modern variety. It doesn't matter if they are a subordinate, coworker or our boss. I like this book for several reasons of which I will list the top three (3).1. Coping with Difficult People is a valuable book for business managers. The genesis for this work was due to the author's unfruitful search for a book on this topic. Michael L. There truly are difficult people that we must all contend with.
While it certainly has to be customized for each situation, the groundwork is intact.
It has substance and treats the material seriously.
As a corporate director of Human Resources and a person that has worked in management since the 70's, I find myself occasionally referring back to this book as I encounter the difficult behavior types.
Nowadays, there are several publications in the bookstores and on-line, but back in 1981, the field was skimpy at best.
Life can be greatly improved by positively dealing with these problem people.
Most of the current plethora of management books is really embarrassing.
3.The advice in the book is actually useful.
And God bless me, I have encountered them all.You might also find useful - Don't Bring It to Work: Breaking the Family Patterns That Limit Success, I Hate People.: Kick Loose from the Overbearing and Underhanded Jerks at Work and Get What You Want Out of Your Job, How to Argue & Win Every Time: At Home, At Work, In Court, Everywhere, Everyday and Wingtips with Spurs.I hope you find this review helpful.

This book can help you deal with them, enabling you to get more work done and be the most liked person in the office. The title is dead on for this very well written book. Admit it, you don't like the people you work with for a variety of reasons. If you get frustrated because you can't work with certain individuals, read this and you'll learn how to make a failing interaction into a constructive one. You might also rethink some of your own habits.
I feel that this audio cd's claim that "Coping with Difficult People: In Business and in Life" was false advertising. If you're looking for how to deal with difficult people in the business world, than this cd would be of help. However, if you're looking for how to deal with difficult people in a personal setting such as difficult friends, family members, etc., beware you won't find it in this cd. Since I was looking for help in dealing with how to deal with difficult relationships in my personal life, I was very much disappointed and let down that it did not cover this area as it claimed.
I read this book a long time ago. Another good book to along with this one is 'The Celestine Prophecy'. One concept he doesn't explain in the book is how energy is transferred from person to person. I suspect that these behaviors are either methods of taking energy from other people, or a type of defense against energy vampirism.
